When you see the food coming to waste, your first thought is that you don’t want it to go to waste.
However, if you’ve ever tried to reheat a steak, you know that once you heat it to the correct temperature, it’s not the same. What to do: put it in the trash or toss it (or throw it in the dog’s bowl)? Reheating steak in ways that lock in its flavor and tenderness so it can be brought back into life in just a few minutes can save you from having to make that tough decision.

Method #1 Heat it in the oven
Tip to remember: If you are able to spare a little time, this is the best way to reheat steak.
The meat will be flavoursome and delicious when it is done and will take around 30 minutes to prepare.
Set the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit before you begin. Next, you should put a sturdy wire rack inside a baking tray (or a pizza pan). The steak will cook equally on both sides if you do that! The steak should be put on a rack after it has been cooked thoroughly on both sides.
You can put the tray into the oven when it is warm. It is best to leave the steaks to cook for about 20-30 minutes, periodically checking their progress. Having the meat dry out is the last thing you need. Each steak will take a slightly different amount of time to heat through, based on how thick it is, so take it slow and watch carefully.
Cooking the meat may be an excellent opportunity to prepare something like a tasty gravy, or a peppercorn sauce. Make your steak even more delicious by drizzling some delicious sauce over it.
Method#2 Reheat It in the Microwave
Although it may be tempting to microwave something and leave it there for two minutes, I wouldn’t recommend it for steak. Using the microwavable method will dry the steak out, and the fat will seize, causing it to become tough and chewy. Here are some tips for a great microwave steak experience, whether you’re using it only for reheating at work or you’re going for low effort at home.
In the morning, place the steak on a plate that can be microwaved and cover it loosely with a damp paper towel. Any remaining moisture will be captured, preventing your steak from drying out. The steak should be heated in the microwave at medium heat for 30 seconds at a time, flipping it between each heating cycle. By doing this, you can prevent your steak from overcooking and keep the reheating process even. This process can take up to 90 seconds or even, 2 minutes. Depending on how powerful your microwave is and how thick the steak is, you will need to microwave it for different amounts of time.
Juicy steak is the result, but it is also flavorful. Despite being slightly less crisp and not as good as yesterday, it will still taste quite amazing.
We also tried reheating the steak with a pat of salted butter; it did taste better, but most of the butter sat at the bottom of the plate and made this dish much greasier than it needed to be.
Method# 3 Add some beef broth

It should begin to bubble a little after a few moments of heating. Add the meat next, and watch it cook beautifully. You shouldn’t have to wait long! Meat gets extra moisture from the broth because of a secret ingredient. This prevents the steak from drying out or becoming rubbery. You can’t get any better than this!
Method #4 On the Stovetop
Using the stovetop to cook steaks keeps the outside sear intact. A tablespoon of oil should be added to the pan when cooking the steak. Let the steak cook for a few seconds before adding a lid to the pan.
Likewise, if you cook steak at too high a temperature or too fast, the steak will become dry.
It would be best to give up on expecting that your steak will be fresh and juicy right out of the pan when you use this method. You can use steak that has already been cooked to make new and juicy recipes like Steak and Egg Hash or Fajita Quesadilla.
The Problem with Reheating Steak (and How to Do it Right!)
Rewarming pan-seared or grilled steak can result in the meat becoming overly dry. This happens because most people tend to heat their steaks quickly instead of rehydrating them properly. Trying to cook your filet mignon too fast, focusing only on temperature, is sure to turn it into a meaty hockey puck.
It is also important to note that reheating leftover steak (or any food) incorrectly can make you ill. When you don’t reheat your food properly, you might get food poisoning from it sitting at room temperature too long. To reheat steak in the right manner and get the flavour and texture you need, it’s crucial to take a little extra time – and follow these tips.
Storing Your Steak for Success
Reheating your steak can also be affected by how you store it in the fridge. It is possible to lose the texture and taste of a perfectly grilled steak by failing to store it properly in the refrigerator. If you don’t have a vacuum sealer, an airtight container is a great alternative. For the best method of storing leftover steak, seal it in a vacuum-sealed bag so that it can’t be absorbed by the air.
If you don’t have any container at home, wrap the leftover steak tightly in plastic wrap and place it on a plate.
Make sure the entire steak plate is covered with plastic wrap, too, to avoid air bubbles. Before covering the steak with plastic wrap, you can brush it with olive oil to keep some moisture in.
